Meet Dennis Mannion- President of “The Palace of Auburn Hills”
January 18, 2012 Auburn Hills Michigan – Meet Dennis Mannion – President of “The Palace of Auburn Hills”
Thank you Denise Asker – and all of you behind the scenes – from the Auburn Hills Chamber of Commerce who once again put on a fabulous event. Up close and personable with the new President of the Palace of Auburn Hills – Dennis Mannion. It does not get any better than that with a privileged peek behind the scenes. Those of you who cannot make these types of events organized by the Chamber are missing out on a productive networking opportunity with businesses and officials – James McDonald the mayor was there – as were Maureen Hammond, Anne Doyle and Peter Auger to name but a few. All the tables were full and the food was scrumptious. Dennis Mannion gave an inspiring overview of the reinventing of the Palace and the forward success strategy for the Pistons. If you ever have the chance to listen to him speak – do so. His philosophy around team motivation, resourcefulness, mutual respect, authenticity, bringing people together to follow and improve upon “hunches” has application to us all. Go Pistons!

What the Dickens
Ever have those annual traditions that end up falling by the wayside? Events that define a season and time of year and bring the family together.
The Waterhouse’s did. Every year it was off to Holly Michigan to cut and buy our own Christmas tree. Out into the countryside to visit Bob and Bob on their farm. Funny, we only ever actually met Bob but never Bob! This was followed by a fabulous brunch at the Holly Hotel. Then out into the freezing cold we went to project ourselves into the Victorian period of the annual festival in downtown historic Holly. Chestnuts, turkey legs, Mr. Plod the Bobby, Scrooge and brass monkeys on the search. But once Bob and Bob stopped selling the trees the tradition seem to fall by the wayside. So this year, with a bunch of excited Germans, we dusted off the tradition and off to Holly we all went. It was a wonderful experience that rekindled those memories. The whole family was there – everyone a little older and a little wiser. The Waterhouse’s took the time to do some photographing for themselves. We also tried out our new medium format Mamiya 645AFD DM22 digital camera! What a result. For you camera buffs, the Mamiya shoots only in RAW and each image results in a high resolution 45 MB image! Most digital images are around 4.0 MB. The results can be viewed on www.waterhousephoto.com. We are looking forward to now using this camera in our daily portrait shoots. Images that will sparkle and define portraits in a new way.
Musings Of Photographers – Photography And The Art Of Capturing Those Milliseconds In Life
Ever thought about how instantaneous the moment “now” actually is? Try imaging now. Try being fully aware of now as it happens. Difficult isn’t it. Now is gone before you can enjoy it. But living in the moment is what the true enjoyment of life is all about. Yesterday has gone and tomorrow is before of us. Life is like a flowing river that ever changes and never comes back the same – moments of ever changing fluidity. But life is all about those precious moments – those unique experiences and memories with friends and loved ones. And that is the magic of photography – it freezes that illusive now into an image that never changes and can be revisited. It holds that moment forever. It allows us to revisit that important past – memories of people and places that in the rush of life perhaps were not realized as being important at the time.
Ten Days to Photograph a Group of 15!
No not really – It did not take ten days. But we bet your were thinking “I cannot believe it”. And you were absolutely correct. Let’s explain. You all know what it is like photographing your family or friends in a group of 4. Someone is always looking the wrong way. Someone always does not like themselves on the final image. Try as you may. Try photographing a group of 15 of all ages! Ah! This is where the illustrative ten days come into effect. We create the best image with a composite shot of the group. So how does that work? Lights, positioning of yourselves and camera are all set up and measured, photographed and documented. This allows us to set the equipment up in exactly the same place every time. Important so that the perspectives and lighting are always the same. We then photograph smaller groups. Each group can immediately look at a series of photographs of themselves and identify the image “they just love”. We do the same with the other groups as well. All of these best images are then assembled into that one fabulous group shot – where everyone loves themselves – their smiles, their pose, their looks. Someone not there on that day – yes we know what it is like scheduling a large group – no problem. They come in later, get their images taken and “voila” appear on the group photo. This is designed to capture the best images of yourselves and take the stress out of scheduling. So – no excuses any more. Book your own session and get that group shot.
2011 Tree Lighting in Downtown Auburn Hills Michigan with Waterhouse Photography
December 2nd, 2011 and another perfect photo night for Waterhouse Photography in downtown Auburn Hills Michigan – the home of Waterhouse Photography’s full service studio! Clear skies, holiday lights, magnificent tree, Mr. and Mrs. Claus and hundreds of Auburnites - all wrapped in a wonder festive atmosphere warmed by an open fire. Once again, a well-organized annual event thanks to the city. Mr. and Mrs. Claus arrived on time thanks to the Auburn Hills fire brigade. Our 6th term mayor James McDonald opened the event, culminating with a round of applause as he announced the timing of the ground breaking ceremony for the newly planned downtown multi-storey building. Songs were sung, hands were warmed and cheeks were flushed. It was a fabulous event for Waterhouse Photography to capture – dragged shutter, fish eye lens and flash photography. Followed by complementary photographs with Santa by Waterhouse Photography in a warmly decorated historical building. The Waterhouse Photography photo session was a resounding success. 100 photos were planned but 250 were handed out!
