Why You Need WATERHOUSE PHOTOGRAPHY

It Is Not About Technology

Cameras, flashes, lenses, memory cards, megapixels and technical process and expertise have less to do with great artistic and memorable photographs than you might think. Let us explain what we mean by that – because you certainly will not see us using our iPhone or iPad to take your images – or a point and shoot camera for that matter.

It Is About Vision and Direction

If great photographs were only a question of great and expensive equipment and mastering the technical processthen everyone would be taking “knock you out of your socks” photographs.  But all the tools and technical know-how only will not help if one aspect is missing from the ingredients – the creative process. The photographer always has an end goal and direction in mind. This requires vision and creative ability. Technique and equipment only helps us get to the vision. The professional photographer has artistic intuition that comes from uniqueness, personality, life experiences, beliefs, likes and dislikes.  That is what makes up the individual style of any photographer and the uniqueness of  WATERHOUSE PHOTOGRAPHY.

It Is All About The WATERHOUSE PHOTOGRAPHY Difference

WATERHOUSE PHOTOGRAPHY is often asked if we are concerned about other competing photographers in the area. The answer is no. The only commonality out there is pricing – but we are not selling price. Pricing is not a measure of quality, artistic ability or the WATERHOUSE PHOTOGRAPHY experience.  These are the factors that are ultimately responsible for creating your images as works of art. Price also cannot measure whether the photographer fits with you emotionally and intellectually. This symbiotic fit between photographer and you is one of the most important aspects of great images and a joyful experience. WATERHOUSE PHOTOGRAPHY has its own style. It is unique to us. Our uniqueness drives our distinction. It is what makes WATERHOUSE PHOTOGRAPHY stand out from others. We create images that we absolutely love. We also drive a photographic experience that is essential to a memorable photographic session.

So, give us a ring and book your next session with us. You will not regret it. We offer a wide range of services

Portraits, newly born, maternity, executive portrait, seniors, group, functions, events, product, annual reports, children, pets, interior design, industrial etc”

How to Assure Great Group Photographs Minus The Pain

WATERHOUSE PHOTOGRAPHY  – Everyone Looks Great

WATERHOUSE PHOTOGRAPHY recently wrote about creating your composite family or group photograph when not everyone was available at the same time – or even was. Your images are taken at different times of smaller groups. Right there and then you select your favorite image. That assures everyone is looking great and you love how you look on the photo.   We all know how it goes with photos of 15 or so people. When the photographer – after one hour of trying and lots of groaning from the kids – finally gets that image where everyone is at least generally looking at the camera with eyes open, you hate how you look.  But by then everyone else is so tired you dare not ask to have the image taken again and just go with it. The composite approach assures great group photographs where everyone looks stunning and is happy

An Added Advantage – Individual Groups

The additional advantage is that as the photographs where taken of individual groups – you can also have smaller individual group photographs printed. You take advantage of paying for only one session, going through one posing process but doubling the bang for the buck with your closer group

Book Your Group Session Now

So, as a reminder – book that group photo session with WATERHOUSE PHOTOGRAPHY and have all the joys of a memorable photograph and experience with you personally looking stunning.

A Variation On This Theme

The other day a lovely customer of ours came into WATERHOUSE PHOTOGRAPHY with a request to photograph herself and her brother for a framed photograph for their mother’s birthday. The conversation went something like this:

Her:          Hi! I would like to get my brother and myself photographed

Us:            OK

Her:           We need to be on the same photograph

Us:            OK

Her:           But my brother is in Florida

Us:            OK

Her:           My brother is not coming up to Michigan for the shoot

Us:            OK!

Her:           And I would like both of us on the beach in the photograph

Us:            What a fantastic idea. Let’s do it!

Ready – Steady – Go!

WATERHOUSE PHOTOGRAPHY contacted the brother immediately – voice mail and text message.  A time was set up in a photo studio in Florida for his shoot.  We then proceeded with some lovely portraits of our client who selected her favorite.  We contacted the photographer at the studio in Florida and forwarded the selected image as orientation for his shoot.  We then received the photograph of the brother back and created a really fabulous gift for mom of her two children – who live miles apart – on the beach.

Think about it. Is this not a great opportunity for all of us to create a wonderful gift for our loved ones. Contact WATERHOUSE PHOTOGRAPHY and let us get the ball rolling

“It always happens to someone else – doesn’t it?”

What a busy time it has been for all!  Senior shoots, executive portraits, out of town shoots and seminars to name but a few – and a big dose of life in general!  And it is life in general that gave us a little shove to write a few notes of wisdom to you on the BLOG.  The learning’s of life.

As most of you know, our house caught on fire a day before the 4th of July!  Fire works in our attic.  Can you believe it – right out of the blue some electrical problem.  Poof and up goes the attic and a whole bunch of water seeps its way down – destruction everywhere.  The moral of the story is though how easy it was to deal with the insurance company.  And why?  Because for a change we had followed our own advise.  We had taken advantage of our own service and photographed everything in the house and saved them digitally up there in “the clouds”.  When it came to insurance coverage everything was there with one small effort called “print”.  All consolidated in one file and safe.

So don’t wait until it is too late.  Take advantage of our service.  For a mere $250 we will come to your house and digitally document your valuables and give you a digital file for safe-keeping. Just in case – because it always happens to someone else – you will be prepared. We were.

The Makings Of Memorable Senior Photo Shoots

“Make the moment exciting, the experience memorable, the awkward sublime,”

That is our focus for all of our Senior Shoots. Every detail needs to fit and be consistent in all aspects of posing, clothing, make-up and environment. The ingredients that function as our backdrop for any shoot and set the emotions and messages for outstanding images.  Assuring that great creative environment. The shoot needs to flow and be fun as if we are all on a movie set – we all need to click.  Otherwise seniors remain hidden behind social norms as well as habits of self-presentation that miss the greater emotional intensity.  Great images result from the degree that seniors surrender to the camera and the photographer releasing those powerful flashes of human potential.

Our most recent senior shoot with Danielle was perfect in this every aspect.  After spending time consulting and discussing the wardrobe in our studio, we tumbled singing into our cars and drove to downtown Detroit.  We wanted to use Lincoln Park and the old Detroit Train Station for our movie set.  Combine artistic urban grunge with feminine beauty. We were so excited about the potential that we decided to cut a video of the whole shoot. “Make the moment exciting”. One call to “Sound Wave” and they were there with Bill their videographer (check them out at 3306 Auburn Road). We will post it so you can all experience first hand the dynamics. The buzz around the shoot was so intense that people were even stopping to watch shouting out – “ You go girl”.  This is exactly the reaction that we create with our shoots.  When it comes to great portraits all the camera equipment and techniques and post-production tricks do not help unless you capture great expressions.  “Making the awkward sublime”

Everyone tumbled into bed that night in contented exhaustion dreaming themselves to sleep with the day’s experiences. That is the ultimate measure of a shoot well done. “Make the experience memorable”
